TEACHING
As the former Founder and Executive Director of Seattle Free School, I taught classes in a wide range of subjects. These days, my focus is on teaching small business owners and entrepreneurs how to take their marketing to the next level. But why listen to me? Aren’t there a HUGE number of people doing exactly this?
Yes, there are. And there are a few things virtually all of them will tell you:
- What type of posts work
- How much you need to pay (and it’s usually quite high)
- That you need to do extensive testing
- They’ll make it seem VERY complicated
Here’s what I’m going to teach you: none of those things are universally true.
First, there is no single “type of post” or type of marketing that works for everyone. Anyone who tells you that isn’t being honest.
Second, what you need to pay is likely VERY small - especially for small businesses and small non-profits just starting out. Start small.
Third, testing matters. But if you spend too much time setting up tests and not enough time doing the actual work, you won’t learn anything useful from them.
Fourth, it’s not that hard. You absolutely can do this yourself.
Fifth, proven results. And no, I don’t mean click-through rates. You don’t sell click-through rates. You need people through your door, and you need to sell your products and services. Visibility matters, but sales are the bottom line.
For those interested in my other classes (canning, soap making, cheese making, etc.), I do teach these on a very occasional basis.
